This itinerary uses three days to connect Songyang Academy, Junji Peak, Luya Waterfall, Yongtai Temple, Fawang Temple, the Songyue Pagoda, Sanhuangzhai, Shaolin Temple, and the Pagoda Forest. It is designed as a destination route where hiking and culture reinforce one another.
Route Highlights
- A three-day program covering representative routes on both Taishi and Shaoshi Mountain.
- Ancient temples, academies, pagodas, Shaolin culture, and geological scenery all appear on one itinerary.
- Many stone stair sections create a moderate but approachable progression for hikers building experience.
- The route can be paired with the “Zen Music Shaolin” evening performance to enrich the trip beyond the trail.
Schedule
Day 1: Songyang Academy – Junji Peak – Luya Waterfall
Gather in Dengfeng and begin at Songyang Academy, visiting its millennium-old cypress trees and historic structures. Continue via Laomudong, Zhongyue Palace, and Sanhuangkou to Junji Peak, then descend toward Luya Waterfall and return to Dengfeng for the night.
Day 2: Yongtai Temple – Junji Peak Area – Fawang Temple – Songyue Pagoda
Start from Yongtai Temple and enter the mountain route via Wangdu Peak. Combine summit meadows and geological views with visits to Fawang Temple and Songyue Pagoda. In the afternoon, the team may add the Songshan Geology Museum, followed by the “Zen Music Shaolin” performance at night.
Day 3: Sanhuangzhai – South Gate – Cliff Walkway – Shaolin Temple
Enter the Shaoshi Mountain route from Sanhuangzhai, pass the Good-Han Ladder, South Gate, and cliffside walkway, then continue to the Pagoda Forest and Shaolin Temple area before returning to Dengfeng or ending the trip there.

- Regional specialties such as Yongtai Temple vegetarian dishes, Shaolin vegetarian pastries, Dengfeng braised snacks, mustard shreds, and knife-cut noodles can be added to the experience.
Safety & Support
- Essential gear includes hiking shoes, trekking poles, rain protection, sun protection, a headlamp, water, and common personal medication.
